At HYLAX our goals are simple: Safety, Fun, and Competition. We promote youth lacrosse in the Houston metro area, emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and the personal development of youth athletes. We are a welcoming club open to boys and girls ranging in age from kindergarten through middle school and covering playing skills from beginner to more experienced.

NEW HYLAX HOUSE LEAGUE FOR BOYS ON THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS
This upcoming lacrosse season, the HYLAX boys’ program will feature a new addition: the HYLAX House League.
During this past off-season, members of the HYLAX board and coaching staff worked with the leadership of U.S. Lacrosse, studied that organization’s Lacrosse Athlete Development Model, and compared notes with other lacrosse clubs across the country in an effort to design a community-based lacrosse program that provides our youth athletes with the best opportunity to grow in the game of lacrosse – in terms of both skill and a love for the game.
Every player in the HYLAX boys’ program will play in the House League. During the month of January, each player will be placed on a House League team within their appropriate age division. House League games will be played every Thursday or Friday night from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.
Each team will play two 25-minute games against two other House League teams. House League games will occur in a small-sided format, on a shorter field, using smaller goals and a foam rubber ball. Depending on the age group, teams will play 3 v. 3, 4 v. 4, or 5 v. 5. The goals will be 3’ x 3’, and the softer ball removes the need for goalies with specialized equipment. For House League games, players will wear helmets, gloves, and elbow pads. They will play a basketball-style defense, and hard-hitting body checks will not be allowed. Fewer players on the field, combined with these rules, results in a much faster pace of play which, in turn, maximizes all the players’ touches on the ball. Some people call this version of the game “Speed Lax.” During the games, there will be one referee and one coach; however, coaching will be limited to managing substitutions only.
HYLAX coaches will deliberately create House League rosters that mix players of all skill levels and experience on each team. Across all the House League teams, we aim to have as much competitive parity as possible. Players will stay on their House League teams throughout the spring. In the House League, we will keep score, post standings, and have playoffs for divisional cups in April.
Our goal is to provide every player with 50 minutes of pure, continuous, fast-moving, competitive lacrosse – with a minimum of coaching intrusion – one night per week during the season.
The game of lacrosse is its own best teacher. On House League nights, HYLAX puts that principle into practice.
SAME GREAT HYLAX EXPERIENCE DURING THE REST OF THE WEEK
Separate from House League nights, each age group will have two one-and-a-half hour practices each week on Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday, or Thursday. Like past years, these practices will emphasize skills and team concepts.
HYLAX will field one “playoff eligible” team in the following boys’ divisions: 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, 7th, and 7th-8th. These teams will be called the HYLAX City Teams. Boys on City Teams will play in inter-club games (usually on Saturdays) that culminate in GHYLA’s end-of-season tournament in May. Typically, HYLAX’s City Teams have rosters of approximately 20 players. On the City Teams, the rosters tend to remain relatively static over the course of the season; however, the HYLAX coaches will endeavor to provide some movement of players onto and off of some of the spots on the rosters when it is developmentally appropriate.
For boys who are not on their age group’s City Team, HYLAX will organize games against other programs in GHYLA that also have “non-playoff eligible” teams. These development-focused teams will have games at South Campus (3600 West Bellfort Ave.) and at other clubs' locations in the Greater Houston area against similarly development focused teams.
HYLAX ENCOURAGES WELL-ROUNDED STUDENT ATHLETES
Although we are partial to lacrosse in the spring, we understand that many of our athletes at HYLAX may play other sports and/or play lacrosse for their school teams. We encourage all of this! We have only two requests: please make sure your coaches know of any conflicts well in advance, and please try to place a priority on making it to House League nights.
If you have read this far, we thank you for your time; and we hope to see you on the South Campus lacrosse fields very soon. We are excited about the upcoming season.
